Ben Bets – Chairman: PrEng, MBL (cum laude), BSc, BEng

Elected as a trustee in 2003, 2006 and re-elected in 2009. Chairs the Action Committee and member of the Remuneration Committee. He is a Business and Telecoms Advisor since 2000. Director of Sondela Shareblock Ltd. Previously with Telkom in engineering, general and top management positions. Served on the boards of Sentech, Vodacom, Vodac, TDS, Q-Trunk, Intekom and Swiftnet. Served on Unisa's SBL board.

Interests: Strategy, corporate governance, performance management, computers, outdoors and photography.

Frank Dempsey – Deputy Chairman

Elected as a trustee in 2003 and re-elected in 2006. Chairs the Human Resource Committee and member of the Action Committee. He is a full-time union representative at Solidarity. Previously with Telkom in junior management positions. Qualified part-time commissioner at the CCMA. Chairman of the Posts and Telecoms Christian Association (Gauteng). Serves on his church and school boards.

Interests: Labour matters and outdoor.

Appointed as a trustee in 2006. He is Executive Support Manager in the Office of the Chief Executive at Eskom. Joined Eskom in 1990.

Interests: Scuba diving and yachting.

Elected as a trustee in 2003, 2006 and re-elected in 2009. Member of the Action Committee. Previously with TeleMed and served as CEO from 1985 to 2002. Served on the board of the Federation of Medical Schemes.

Interests: Medical aid industry, golf, table tennis, reading and woodwork.

Appointed as a trustee in 2007. Served as an elected trustee from 2003 to 2007. Chairs the Investment Committee and Member of the Audit Committee. He is Group Executive, Corporate Finance at Telkom. Joined Telkom in 1993. Director of Business Against Crime and TDS (Pty) Ltd. Chairs TDS Audit Committee. Serves as vice-treasurer of the governing body of Lynnwood Ridge Primary School and is a member of the Finance Committee of the Wesleyan Methodist Church.

Interests: Golf, hiking, cycling, travel, swimming and sport in general.

Appointed as a trustee in 2006. He is Managing Director of Dekra Norisko Industrial SA, which is part of Dekra AG of Germany. Joined Dekra in 2007. Previously worked for Telkom as Corporate Head of Safety, Health and Environmental Management.

Interests: Fly fishing, interior decorating and reading.

Elected a trustee in 2006. He is Treasurer of the Friends of the Tygerberg Hills Nature Conservation Group and of the U3A Tygerberg Community Association. Previously with Telkom in technical training positions. Served as a trustee of the Telkom Retirement Fund.

Elected a trustee in 2007. Member of the Investment Committee. Trustee of TeleMed Pension Fund. He is Principal Officer of the Telkom Retirement Fund, Telkom Pension Fund and the Telkom Management Provident Fund. Joined Telkom in 1994.

Dr Jacqui Joubert – PhD (Psychology), M.Cur, B.A. Cur, B.Soc.Sc (Hons)

Elected as a trustee in 2009. She has many years of experience in the South African healthcare industry with specific emphasis on the development, implementation and quality control of health risk and disease management programmes. Served on numerous multi-disciplinary Steering Committees in South Africa where the purpose was that of improving grass-roots delivery and evidence-based healthcare to the community, from both university based training and commercial perspectives. Dr Joubert is currently the CEO of Access Health (SA), a company specialising in HIV disease management, risk- and chronic disease management of lifestyle related diseases and pre-benefit testing and underwriting of various pension and provident funds. She plays a steering roll in new business development, implementation and outcomes management of disease management, lifestyle management and wellness programmes in the South African health industry.
